Mark has lived in Holyrood, NL since 1982. He holds a B.Sc. from Memorial University, an Advance Aquaculture Diploma from the Fisheries and Marine Institute, and an Applied Business Information Technology Graduate Diploma from the College of the North Atlantic. His work experience includes a 15-year military career as a commissioned officer in the Canadian Forces, owner/operator of several small businesses, and he is presently employed as the Executive Director of a provincial non-profit organization. Mark is married to Rhonda (nee Tulk) and in  September 2009 they welcomed a new addition to the family - Sam.

• Appointed as a commissioned officer by Right Honourable Governor General Adrienne Clarkson and Honourable John MacCullum, Minister of Defence, 2001

• Holds the rank of Captain with the 56 Field Engineer Squadron where he has served as Platoon Commander, Course Officer, Public Relations and Unit Information Officer as well as Operations Officer.
